Just because you’re an entrepreneur doesn’t mean you have to do it alone. Right? Absolutely! Entrepreneurs typically start their businesses alone pouring in their ideas, time & money to grow a successful online business. But if you take all the projects on yourself, you can be left feeling frustrated, overwhelmed and quit projects, then leave parts of your business in the dust.

And even the perks of being your own boss, taking time off when you want and working with clients you love can take a toll when you are doing it all yourself. It won’t be rewarding at all! You are your own boss, accountant, marketer and secretary, right? Yet those are tasks you DON’T get paid for- they’re NOT billable hours.

Many who want help think of the traditional cost associated with hiring in house assistance, but the truth is it doesn’t have to be that painful hiring help for your online business. In fact, if you are aware of how hiring a service provider works by playing it smart, you actually don’t have to invest out of pocket.

Let’s look at an example. If you are making $100/hr, and you hire a VA at $20/hr for 3 hours of work (say creating and scheduling Social Media), you’re still making $40.

Let’s also take a moment to think about all those tasks you have to work on, yet when do you actually take the time to get it done? Do they just build up until you feel buried in a mountain of website edits, social media creation, customer inquires,  account set ups, creating blog content, ect, ect?

Those are task your service provider can help you with and more. So stop spending your time on projects that don’t make you money and start delegating to a service provider like a VIrtual Assistant. I promise you it will make everything much easier when you have some there to help you and increase your revenues.

3 Tips for Working with a Virtual AssistantCommunication                                                                          Whether it is about a new project, a misunderstanding, or not enough feedback from your Virtual Assistant, communication with an understanding mindset can go a long way. Chances are your Virtual Assistant has many other client and project they are handling at once, so it can difficult to balance projects, if there’s not a system in place [i.e. Central Desktop, Asana] when projects are carried out.

Let them know that they can ask questions. If you are a busy person, ask them to try and get questions asked well before the project due date, but in some cases with the implementation of projects questions and problems arise. You can also ask for updates every X amount of days to keep on top of project progress or set milestones and subtasks up within your project management system, so you can keep a closer eye on progress.

I cannot stress how important it is to be understanding toward your Virtual Assistant. They have a lot to keep up with and while they should be organized, they cannot read your mind or always keep up with daily or weekly changes in their clients business. So reminders, thoroughly explaining your needs, and an understanding mindset can really be to your advantage to not stress it out.

One other very important factor to keep in mind is that it could be you. I know that it can be hard sometimes to accept. But being open to accepting your faults as well shows you are professional and simply human. Allow your Virtual Assistant to refresh your memory as well when complications that relate to mis communication arise.

Your Virtual Assistant will thank you for being professional and not blowing them off and moving on without talking it out. I’ve been there and I know how it feels.

Tips on how to communicate with your VA:

  • Outline your business and its efforts

It is great to have a VA who understands your business and what it stands for. Consider telling them a little about what your business is all about and what your goals are and where your priorities lie within it.  

  • Define your expectations in a VA

Explain clearly what type of person you need to perform the tasks you need help with. Maybe telling them what specific tasks/programs they should have experience with or find out ahead of time if they will need a little extra from you to get the project started. This will eliminate any confusion and show you are serious in finding the right candidate.

  • Clearly identify and update the task(s) you need fulfilled

In writing, detail the instructions for your VA about the specific task you need help with. This means composing a list of task you do daily and/or weekly that you would like to have someone else do for you, so you can focus on other areas of your business that require your attention. This also means you should update the list or requirements for the list as changes occur.

  • Outline project timelines and guidelines

Specify each task with a due date or milestones that should be completed as the project progresses.

  • Agree on terms before the project starts and/or sign a contract after a trial period 

This would be payment terms, ideal communication method, project updates, how to submit completed projects, ect… And remember VA’s have their own expectations too.

Pinterest Marketing: What To Include In Your Description

How awesome is it that Pinterest is now offering business profiles?!

I think that it is absolutely amazing and has so much potential to offer any business owner- large or small. You can sell products like jewelry, home decor, and Ebooks or offer blog content with advice, opt-in freebies, and how-tos. However, the list is absolutely endless. I would highly suggest learning more about how to market your business.

Here are some great tips to include in your description to ensure you get noticed in the sea of pins-

CTA– This is short for Call To Action. Do you know what this might be? Well, its is a group of words that invite your viewers to sign up for your opt-ins, repin your recipe, or click on your blog post. So the few CTA words to consider are- Repin, Click Here, Sign Up, ect. And remember the importance of CTA words entice your audience to take ACTION.

Links– These allow users to click on your link in which Pinterest then directs to your site, blog, ect and additionally it allows you to get credit for your pin if someone else pins it onto their board. Plus, some individuals don’t know to click on the picture to be directed to your site. **Note- When you are setting up your pin be sure to edit it and include where your pin links to.  

Price– If you are selling a product or service be sure to include your price for a few reasons. One, Pinners will know that this pin is for a product/service for sale. Two, you can automatically be added into the gifts section of Pinterest.  **Note, in order to put a price banner on your pin, you can type anywhere in the description ($-.–) and a banner will automatically appear.

SEO Keywords– This one is kind of a no brainer, but some of you who are new to marketing must know that it is always important to include important words that describe your product/service. If you are selling jewelry, try comparing these descriptions 1.) Repin this awesome jewelry for $4.99. vs. 2.) Click Here to buy Ocean Daze Jewelry- sparkly sterling silver stud earrings at $4.99. Now, which one is more effective, catchy, and concise. Tip- include #hashtags by your keywords like twitter users to get higher ranks in the search results of Pinterest like so #studearrings

Click Buttons– Incorporating buttons on your pictures can significantly increase your repins and traffic. The buttons should be CTA words like described above. They don’t have to necessarily be clickable because when you click on a pin it will direct you to the original site if you set it up correctly (see links for a brief description). To add buttons to your photos use this free tool here. No registration either is a big plus!

I was reading through one of my newsletters this morning, and I stumbled upon a fabulous article for anyone who works from home. It has some great advice about the common mistakes we face in the work at home environment and how one can make changes in their routine to help avoid these mistakes.

I know I am guilty of a couple of these, but I will be incorporating these useful tips.
